Las Vegas heats up. The Mirage Poker Showdown (a World Poker Tour Event) begins May 2 and the Championship Event will be held May 23-27. Next door at sister-casino, TI (Treasure Island) celebrates Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorating the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862. Each year, Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated throughout Mexico and in many cities in the United States. In Las Vegas, Isla Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar at TI is joining in the celebration. From 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., Isla will offer a special menu, $5 house Margaritas plus a roving Mariachi Band. And, of course, Isla’s own sultry Tequila Goddess will be on hand to decipher the mysteries of Tequila and create the perfect margarita.
In addition to the Sahara’s expanded Poker Room, the casino is now offering EZMoney (free play) in addition to regular cashback and comps. If you have an active players account, earn $10 in EZMoney bonus free play for every 200 points ($2000 coin-in) earned each month. The promotion is ongoing and began in April. When you’ve earned 200 points go to Club Sahara and a club representative will issue $10 in EZMoney. You can earn up to $50 a day; $1,500 per month maximum.

The Aladdin has also announced the opening of Pink’s Hot Dogs, a Hollywood favorite hot dog celebrity hang-out since 1939. The legendary eatery is the first of its kind located outside of California. Chili Dogs start at $6.95, Spicy Dogs are $11.95 and the Pastrami Burrito is $13.95. Pink’s is located near the Zanzibar Cafe and is open 24 hours seven days a week.
The trend to clean up the air in the poker rooms around Las Vegas continues. The Stardust and Sunset Station join in and are now both smoke free rooms. The Texas Station Poker Room is another smoke free room and they have plenty of food specials for players found throughout its many restaurants located inside the casino. Besides the fast-food court and the Feast Buffet, the Cafe (24 hour coffee shop) offers weekday Blue Plate Specials for $4.99. Mondays is Chicken Pot Pie, BBQ Shredded Beef sandwiches are served on Tuesdays, Wednesdays is Corned Beef and Cabbage day, Thursdays is old-fashioned Pot Roast and on Fridays the special is Beef Stroganoff. Also, seven days a week, all lunches (any item on the menu) at the Cafe served between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. are half points for all Boarding Pass members.
Downtown, the Golden Nugget now holds daily Texas Hold’em Poker tournaments. Visit the website for the schedule.
Also downtown, in honor of the city’s Centennial celebration, hit a slot or video poker jackpot of $200 or more at the Plaza and receive a 1905 framed Vintage Photograph of downtown Las Vegas. See the Barrick Gaming promotions booth for complete details. That’s it for this week!
