Located on Boulder Highway (”The Other Strip”), Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall has been a Las Vegas institution since 1979. Boasting over 600 hotel rooms and some of the most exciting attractions in the entire city, Sam’s Town is home to 100,000 square feet of gaming space spread across threelevels.

Since day one, the legendary casino has earned its place among Las Vegas’ finest establishments thanks to a relaxed, customer-oriented atmosphere that provides a safe haven for those looking for a Vegas adventure off the beaten path.

A favorite destination for avid poker players, the Sam’s Town poker room features nine tables and is staffed by 40 professional dealers and four floor people.

Poker Manager Dick Gatewood, a poker industry veteran and longtime fan of the game, works to ensure that each and every player feels right at home. Since the spring of 2003, the room has held special No Limit Hold’em tournaments ($45RB$20AO$20) every Thursday through Sunday. The poker crew’s decision to launch these events couldn’t have come at a better time, as 2003’s Great Poker Boom led to Sam’s Town receiving more customers than ever before. Today, these tournaments remain an extremely popular attraction, with a good 40 percent of the room’s regular patrons being comprised of newer players.

Additionally, players who put in more than 50 hours during the months are invited to a $6,000 Freeroll Tournament held the first Wednesday of the following month, Pleased by the overwhelming response poker has received in recent times, Gatewood is quick to give credit where credit is due.

“I’d credit Lyle Berman, Steve Lipscomb and Chris Moneymaker,” he says. “Those are the three people who really got the ball rolling.”

With the success of Sam’s Town’s weekly tournaments at an all-time high, Gatewood and his team are offering players a chance to win a no-cost entry into this year’s World Series of Poker. Now through May 29, the top 10 players from the qualifying period will be awarded entry into a special one-table tournament at Sam’s Town on June 4. The winner will receive $10,000 seat in the WSOP. The second-place winner will receive a $2,000 seat.

Not surprisingly, the promotion (the first of its kind at Sam’s Town) has kept the poker room booming night after night. Plans are already underway for Sam’s Town to offer players seats to other major events across the country.

With so much competition on and off the Strip, Sam’s Town goes out of its way to provide its players with an experience they will never forget. When not at the tables, players can enjoy a game at the casino’s 56-lane, 24-hour bowling alley, catch a movie at the casino’s state-of-the-art theater, see a live performance at the Sam’s Town Live! concert hall or take in the sites a Mystic Falls Park, a fascinating garden environment (complete with a free water and laser show) that remains the casino’s most popular attraction. A number of exceptional restaurants and 30,000 square feet of available meeting/ banquet space compliment these amenities.

Yet, Sam’s Town’s greatest strength is its accessibility. As Sam’s Town guests already know, playing a poker game at the casino doesn’t mean having to force your way through endless crowds and distractions. With convenient parking and spacious accommodations, Sam’s Town patrons will have no problem getting down to business on the green felt.
