Never Give Up!

When you think at that moment that it is possible-then the magic starts.” -Siegfried

They say, “Nobody can kick you unless you’re already lying on the floor” I was on the floor covered with dust. That saying is without prejudice, meaning my casual acquaintances kicked melike a soccer ball and my loved ones too. It wasn’t their fault, I was in their way, I needed to get up and sit in a chair or something. In those dark days, the only chair I would sit in was at the poker table. The game made me focus; it helped me momentarily forget about my self-made misery. I played some of my best poker those days because I craved so badly the feeling of being a winner. It was about the glory of winning, not the money. I would wait and wait for the right opportunity then, I would swoop down like and eagle and take the pot. I would patiently wait for perfect cards. When the pile of chips would swoosh my way, I felt the rush of being a winner, who I really was.

My early experiences sometimes led me to believe that I was inadequate. That I wasn’t man enough to have the life I dreamed of back in the days, when I dared to dream. I started having dreams that weren’t even mine. They were my parents, my siblings, my friends and society’s ideas on how I should live. I forgot about the possibilities of life that made my heart race, put a smile on my face, a bounce in my step and a sparkle in my eyes. I was a bird with a broken wing. I had this horrible feeling that time was running out. I felt lost in a sea of insecurity, doubt and hopelessness.

I thought successful people had something extra that I didn’t have. I thought they had a different up bringing, that they “had connections,” that they went to better schools, that they were smarter and more attractive than me. How would I get back to the big dreams that I had for my life? How would I return to the place that I still knew was somewhere deep down inside? That place, where I could fly?

You made it! People say that when one achieves success, how true. You make it; you make it, do you get it? You make it, like a cake, a house, a jigsaw puzzle. You put it together. You MAKE everything you have, the first thing people say to a person whose reached great success is “You made it” so simple but profoundly accurate. You make your reality, your success, with your dreams, thoughts and desires that lead into action.

It dawned on me. It hit me like a thousand decks of cards. The only difference between truly successful people and me was that they had not stopped pursuing what they wanted from life, what they knew they were made to do, their purpose, they never stopped protecting it, they never stopped nurturing it, “making it,” building it. I made a vow in that moment that I would never give up on my heart’s desires again, ever!

Until next time think about this… “When has your past been given enough attention?”
