Feel and Release
Jennifer Matiran
I was up about three hundred dollars in a no-limit game, one and two dollar blinds. I decided to play a K, 9 of hearts. The flop is Q, 2, 10 of heats. I flopped a King high flush, this should be easy money. A guy bets twenty-five bucks, everyone folds, I call. I’m thinking, I’ll call him the entire way and then raise all in atthe end. Turn comes another ten and the river is a four. The guy bets and I go all in, just like planned and get called ha, ha, ha. He shows three tens and I confidently turn over my K, 9 of hearts…that turn out to be a K, 9 of diamonds, I thought they were hearts the whole time, I made a mistake, a three hundred dollar mistake. Don’t laugh; I used to laugh, until it happened to me.
I tried not to think about my foolish mistake. I kept myself busy with other things but the thought of “K, 9″ kept creeping into my mind. How could I have been so dumb? How could I have made that kind of mistake?
I always thought that was a senior citizen kind of error, shame on me, I realize now, that it could happen to anybody. I felt dumb and guilty. I tried so hard to distract myself but nothing worked. Distraction is not the solution, I learned. I learned that ignoring your feelings does not make them go away.
First, one must allow themselves to feel the emotion before it can be released. Most people (especially men) think bottling it up or trying to forget will make the ugly go away. After we feel an emotion, it can be released because it has no place else to go. Just like humor, somethingfunny happens, our laughter releases that emotion.
When we do not allow ourselves to feel, it builds up inside and ultimately affects our character. People who are bitter, mean, suspicious, jealous, insecure, envious and resentful do not become like that over night, its years of pent up emotions manifesting into their character. It is the unhealthiest thing to play dodge ball with your emotions. FEEL IT AND THEN RELEASE IT. That’s what I did and I felt better. I gained perspective. I thought about the people who lost everything in the hurricane. Misreading cards is not even a grain of salt compared to what those people suffered. I pray that the survivors heal and never give up…
Never give up because…
You are destined to be great. You are destined to be full of Joy. You are destined to be far beyond what you have ever imagined. You are destined to heal. You are destined to shine like a beautiful star. You are destined to grow in gratitude. You are destined to grow in Faith. You are destined to walk the road less traveled, perhaps. You are destined to have Love pulsating in your mind, body and most importantly your heart at all times. You are destined to believe that all things happen for a reason even if we don’t know why? You are destined to become better and better. You are destined to grow in humility. You are destined to have everything you want better than you have imagined it. You are destined to rise from the ashes. You are destined. You are destined. You are destined.
