Something important happened when professional artist Sandra Palmer discovered poker. “Suddenly, my lifelong passion for art and my new passion for poker fused in a kaleidoscope of ideas and inspiration,” she told Poker Player.

Since then, Sandra has been producing some of the most unique, acclaimed art for poker players. Especially popular have been her eye-catching cardprotector pieces. Working with heavy metals like zinc and nickel plate, she designs card-cover pieces that are a little larger than a silver dollar.

“Players must cover their cards to protect their hands,” Palmer explains, “as an artist I recognized it was an exciting opportunity for creativity and individuality.” A Palmer card-protector is distinguished by its weight, strength and beauty. It’s called “cloisonn?” art, a flat metal sculpture filledin with enamel colors and fired to a brilliant, hard finish. Sandra sells these handsome pieces for about $10 each.

There are dozens of different designs, including ones in which a player can have a photo of their favorite person imbedded in the center piece.

“My card protector pieces make a popular, oneof- a-kind gift for the poker player in your life,” Sandra reports. A “Palmer,” for many players, is not just a card cover, but a memorable lucky piece as well.

Sandra Palmer has been a successful working artist her whole life. “I got my first job painting store windows for the Holidays when I was in high school,” Sandra says, “I got $5 a window. Eventually, I was doing every store in town.” Sandra got into poker a few years ago. Apparently, her artistic sensitivity and perception has served her well. She’s won several tournaments and now divides her time between art and poker.
