Byron Liggett Passes at 62
Byron Liggett has been a good friend and business associate of mine for more than a quarter of a century. He was the Editor and Ad manager for our Northwest territory, which ranged as far east as Oklahoma. Byron, who held a master’s degree in History, delighted us all with his extensive well researched series published in Poker Player on poker playing presidents, notorious historical characters, and famous gambling cities of the past. In addition he served as Media Director for the Heartland Poker Tour and for major tournaments held at the Peppermill casino in Reno.
Here is what Mike Gainey, Peppermill Poker Room Manager wrote to me that so aptly describes Byron: “I am very sorry about the loss of Byron; he was to me one of the best poker wits and writers that this industry has had the privilege to read. His writings were always very informative, casual, and humorous. He will be missed, and I will miss him not only because of his abilities, but because he was my friend.” All of us at Poker Player newspaper will miss our friend, as well.
Byron suffered from serious neurological problems that were miraculously cured a few years ago with a new wonder drug. He was very grateful to be able to return to work and loved what he did with a great passion and dedication that few others have obtained. His work product was outstanding and always on time.
He is survived by his wife, Ronna, daughters Trisha Loewen and Melanie Muller, son-in-law Chris Muller, grandaughter Darby Muller and brother Mark Liggett.
