ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (September 12, 2007) - Monday is often the most dreaded day of the week for most people. Typically ushering in the traditional work week for the majority of the masses, Monday?s ?tractor-beam-like? grip, also affected the Borgata Poker Open players. They showed little hesitation in mixing things up and quickly proved that they were in Atlantic City to take care of business.

Featuring polar opposite styles of play, the day saw the start of the $500 No Limit Event #7 and the conclusion of the $500 Event #6 Limit Hold?em tournament. Six hundred and twenty-six runners showed for Event #7 at 11:00 am, while Event #6 had 18 returning players.

The $500 Event #7 saw a number of top professional players in the field of 626 players. Seeing action on the day were Kathy ?Poker Kat? Liebert, Nam Le, Kenna James, Nick Frangos, Mike Sica, Steve Dannenmann, J.C. Tran, Nick Binger, Amnon Filippi, and Davidson Matthew.

The biggest story of the day was the early rebound of Amnon Filippi. After dropping down to $2,000 in chips at one break, Filippi steamrolled the competition as he built his stack to over $60,000.

While the pro-filled field of Event #7 mixed it up, 2:00 p.m. saw the start of $500 Event #6 Limit Hold?em Day Two. Although 18 players returned for action, only one champion would take home the $32,175 first-place cash.

In the end, it was Timothy Schoenberger who took home his first Borgata Poker Open title and the top cash payout. Hailing from Millville, N.J., Schoenberger works in the carpentry field and has been playing poker for seven years.

? I really enjoyed playing in this Limit tournament. The structure was great and you got a lot of play. Because it was Limit, if you got your Aces cracked early on, you still had some chips to play with,? he said after he collected his Tag Hauer watch and the first-place cash.

According to Borgata’s Director of Poker Marketing Ray Stefanelli, Schoenberger?s win proves that players of all caliber can take down a Poker Open title. ?Professionals and amateurs alike — all players have a shot at taking home a Borgata title and that is why this tournament series continues to grow each year,? he said.
