Entertainment Report - Gwen Stefani

Although my tastes in music run more to Sinatra, Dean Martin, Streisand and Dinah Washington-though you thought I was going to say Patti Page, didn’t you-there are a few of today’s singers I enjoy. No, Britney Spears is not one of them. But Gwen Stefani is, and she’ll be returning the The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort on Friday, October 26, at 8 p.m. Joining her will be pop singer Sean Kingston and I have to admit that I have no idea who he is, but I figure he must be pretty good for Stefani to have him as her opening act.

I like smart, talented women and Stefani is both, combining a very successful singing career with an equally successful business career, which is not an easy thing to do. I’m sure she’ll be singing a number of songs from her latest album, The Sweet Escape, which I really enjoyed.

Tickets for the show are $153 and $253, plus service fees. Pretty pricey and as you can see, no lower-end tickets, so unless I’m comped, don’t be looking in the crowd for me.

Tickets went on sale last week, which is the reason I’m telling you about this so early. To get them, visit any Ticketmaster location, call 702-474-4000 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. I love it when hotels come up with creative things to promote whatever event is happening on the property, so when I heard about this, I wanted to pass it on to you. Spamalot, which performs at Wynn Las Vegas will reveal “Secrets of the Grail” with the launch of the Very Important Person Package (V.I.P.P.). V.I.P.P. ticket holders will be escorted behind the curtain and taken backstage to see the inner sanctum of one of the funniest shows on the Strip. They will sign a blood oath, swearing not to reveal any of the secrets, and violators will be impaled on a spike.

The V.I.P.P. tickets, on sale now, include premium seating, a 45-minute “Secrets of the Grail” backstage tour after the show and, a commemorative Grail cup that’s filled with beer or soft drink. Guests will be able to take photos with cast and crew, set pieces and props. A ticket will cost you $159, plus tax and I’m told there are a limited number of V.I.P.P. tickets available exclusively on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Tours begin immediately following the performance. Sounds like a lot of fun and an experience you won’t get back in Akron or Boise or just about anywhere else in the country.

If you’re in the mood for a lot of laughs, catch the comedians at the all-new LA Comedy Club at Palace Station. The Club is now open nightly and features two comedians in the showroom. The Club hosts two hour-long shows nightly, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets are only $24.95 each and include either two drinks inside the showroom or a meal at the Palace Station Feast Buffet that must be redeemed within seven days of purchase date. Now that’s a great deal. The featured comedians will alternate every one to two weeks, splitting their time on stage equally. You can get tickets by calling (702) 574-5300, online at www.palacestation.com or at the Palace Station Box Office.

The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Los Angeles Kings return to Las Vegas for “Frozen Fury X” when they host an NHL pre-season game against the Colorado Avalanche Saturday, Sept. 22 (7:30 p.m.) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tickets are $200 (front row ice), $65, $35 and $25, not including service charges and taxes and you can get them by calling Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000 or going to www.mgmgrand. com, www.ticketmaster.com or www.lakings.com.

“Frozen Fury X” plans to feature a line-up of NHL all-star players from both rosters including Kings players Anze Kopitar, Michael Cammalleri and former Avalanche Defenseman Rob Blake. Avalanche all-stars include future Hall of Famer Joe Sakic, second-year standout Paul Stastny and former Kings Forward Ian Laperriere.
