World Series of Poker Circuit Begins at Lake Tahoe
WSOP Circuit
Stateline, NV ? The World Series of Poker Circuit is returning to Northern Nevada for the fourth straight year. Over the next two weeks poker players and fans alike can enjoy the excitement of the world?s largest and most prestigious poker tournament series which will be held at the Harvey?s Hotel and Casino Resort, located on the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. Harvey?s, owned and operated by Harrah?s Entertainment, will be hosting the fourth WSOPC stop of the 2007-08 season.
The tournament runs from November 9-18 and will include ten events. Tournament buy-ins range from $200 (+30) up to $5,000 (+150) for the main event. The Harvey?s poker room also offers second chance tournaments nightly, starting promptly at 6:00 pm. Mega-satellites for the main event will be held daily starting at 3 pm ($330) and 8 pm ($550). Live action games and satellites run around the clock.
?Winning an event at the World Series of Poker is the ultimate prize for all poker players,? said Janis Sexton, Tournament Director. ?But the World Series of Poker is now much more than just the Las Vegas event. It has evolved into a year-around attraction and has even been played overseas. We are thrilled that poker players here in the northwest can now experience the same excitement that they see in Las Vegas and on television ? but much closer to home.?
Indeed, the Harrah?s Lake Tahoe event attracts players from all over the west. However, the majority of players arrive from Northern California and Nevada, specifically Sacramento and Reno. Nestled in the pine forests surrounding Lake Tahoe, this circuit stop has rapidly turned into one of the most popular poker destinations of the year. Last year, this circuit stop hosted the largest poker tournament series ever held in Northern Nevada. The number of participants this year is expected to be high, as well ? meaning larger fields and higher payouts for the winners.

Vince Contaxis, Poker Room Manager at Harvey?s Lake Tahoe, explained the popularity of the WSOPC events as follows: ?These events really do cater to the average poker player. We attract some of the top professionals, but most of the time you will see regular, everyday poker players making final tables and winning prize money. All of the Circuit events are much more regional in nature and we are glad to see our regular players have a chance to win lots of money.?
The WSOPC is also popular because of generous amounts of chips given to players at the start of each tournament and sufficient time to allow play, which is always a concern to poker players. Tournament structures are similar to what is used at the WSOP in Las Vegas.
This year?s tournament will also offer a Ladies No-Limit Hold?em championship, with a $230 buy-in. The main event winner will automatically be awarded a seat into the $10,000 buy-in championship event at the 2007 World Series of Poker, to be held next year in Las Vegas. The winner will also receive a gold and diamond ring, as a token of achievement.
Poker has a very long and rich tradition in Lake Tahoe. Twenty-nine years ago, the Super Bowl of Poker was first held in this area, which at the time was the second-largest poker tournament in the world. By returning once again and making Harvey?s Lake Tahoe a significant part of the WSOP Circuit, Harrah?s Entertainment is proudly demonstrating its commitment to the growth of poker and dedication to poker players in the Reno-Lake Tahoe region.
